Who We Are

Nigat Global Initiative (NGI) is an Ethiopia-based organization working to prevent trafficking, support survivor recovery, and strengthen systems that protect vulnerable communities.

We work at the intersection of prevention, reintegration, justice, livelihoods, and systems change, responding to both long-standing trafficking patterns and emerging forms of exploitation, including cyber-enabled trafficking and forced criminality.

Rooted in dignity and driven by evidence, NGI works with survivors, youth, government institutions, media professionals, and communities to build practical and lasting solutions.

Our Story

NGI was founded on a simple but urgent belief: exploitation should never define a person’s future.

What began as a response to growing migration vulnerabilities and trafficking realities in Ethiopia has evolved into a survivor-centered organization working across prevention, reintegration, policy engagement, and systems strengthening.

In our inaugural year alone, NGI reached more than 650,000 people through awareness and media engagement, supported trafficking survivors returning from Southeast Asia scam compounds, convened national policy discussions on cyber-enabled trafficking, and launched community-based prevention and reintegration initiatives across Addis Ababa.

Today, NGI is helping shape a more coordinated, informed, and dignified response to trafficking in Ethiopia and beyond..

Vision

A world where people are protected from exploitation before harm occurs, and where survivors can rebuild their lives with dignity, safety, and opportunity.

Mission

To prevent trafficking and unsafe migration through survivor-centered reintegration, community prevention, systems strengthening, and coordinated action that expands dignity, justice, and opportunity.

Core Values

Human Dignity : Every person deserves safety, respect, and the opportunity to rebuild their life.

Justice : We challenge systems that enable exploitation and inequality.

Accountability : We believe trust is built through transparency, integrity, and measurable action.

Agility: We adapt quickly to emerging trafficking patterns and changing realities.

Disruption: We develop bold and practical solutions that challenge harmful systems and prevent exploitation before it happens.

Our Reach

In our first year, NGI has:

  • Reached more than 650,000 people through media and awareness campaigns

  • Conducted 6 youth migration awareness rounds reaching 300 young people in Addis Ababa

  • Recorded a 40–60% increase in participant knowledge following prevention training

  • Established the Media Advisory Group on Migration and Trafficking (MAG-MT) with 10 media institutions

  • Trained and engaged more than 48 media professionals on ethical migration reporting

  • Supported survivor reintegration through psychosocial support, vocational pathways, and livelihoods programming

  • Established the Dignity Circle, a survivor-led peer support space promoting healing, safety, and community

  • Convened national policy discussions on cyber-enabled trafficking and forced criminality

  • Contributed to regional and global conversations on trafficking, migration, and systems change

This format instantly makes NGI look larger, clearer, and more credible.

“We believe prevention must happen before exploitation. And reintegration must restore dignity, agency, and hope.”
